Set up your inventory

Formulas and runs price everything from your ingredient records, so the inventory comes first. You don’t need your whole pantry: start with the five or six ingredients your main recipe uses.

1. Add your ingredients

Open Ingredients in the sidebar and press Add ingredient. Each record needs a name and a unit (the unit you count it in: kg, L, pieces). A density in g/ml is worth filling in for liquids you’ll measure by volume in recipes. Habanero chilis, cider vinegar, sea salt, sugar: that’s a fine first list.

You can also set a restock threshold; below that level the list flags the ingredient as low, so you find out before the morning you planned to produce.

If your ingredients already live in a spreadsheet, import them from a CSV instead of retyping.

2. Group them with categories (optional)

Categories do more than filter the list: each one defines its own custom fields. A “Chilis” category can carry a Scoville rating, an “Essential oils” category an INCI name. Fields can show as columns in the inventory table. See categories and custom fields.

3. Give each ingredient a cost

A new ingredient has stock but no price, and an unpriced ingredient makes a formula uncostable. Two steps fix that, on the ingredient’s card:

1. Under Vendor pricing, press New offer and record what you pay: vendor, price, pack size. For the chili farm, say €80.00 for a 20 kg crate.
2. Press Log delivery, enter the quantity you have on hand, and link the delivery to that offer. The delivery values your stock and seeds the ingredient’s weighted average cost.

The “Initial Stock Level” field on the creation form books quantity only, with no cost; the card will flag it as uncosted stock until a priced delivery covers it. If you have past purchases in a spreadsheet, importing deliveries rebuilds the cost history in one pass.

From then on, every delivery, loss and adjustment lands in the ingredient’s movements ledger; stock, deliveries and losses covers the day-to-day.
