Deleting an organization

Deleting an organization closes the workspace for the whole team and, after a grace window, erases everything it contained. It is the right move when a business winds down or a test workspace has served its purpose. It is the wrong move when all you want is to stop paying.

Cancel the plan instead. On Manage organization, open the Billing & usage tab and press Manage billing: cancellation there keeps the plan running until the end of the period you already paid for, and your data stays untouched afterwards on the limited plan. See billing and plans.

Deleting the organization is a different decision, and a bigger one.

Only the owner can delete an organization, from Manage organization, in the Advanced tab.

  1. Open the Danger zone and press Delete organization.
  2. The dialog states what will happen. If a subscription is running, it names the plan, the date it is paid through, and asks you to tick that you accept the consequences (next section).
  3. Enter your password, type the organization name exactly, and press Delete forever.

The moment you confirm:

  • Every member loses access, immediately.
  • Any running subscription or trial ends, immediately.
  • Every owner receives an email describing the deletion, including the date the data will be erased. If you see that email and did not expect it, contact support at once.

Deleting does not wait for the end of the paid period: the subscription is canceled on the spot, the remaining time is forfeited, and it is not refunded. The dialog asks you to confirm exactly that before anything happens, and the confirmation is recorded.

That trade is the point of the gentler path above: cancel in the portal and you keep what you paid for; delete and you end it now.

The data is not erased the moment you delete. For 30 days it sits unreachable on our servers, and support can restore the whole workspace on request from any of its owners. The deletion email names the exact date.

When the window closes, the erasure is automatic and final: ingredients, recipes and versions, runs, orders, stock history, notes and photos. A restore after that date is not possible, from a backup or otherwise.

Two things survive the erasure, because the law requires them to:

  • Invoices and payment records stay with our payment processor, Stripe, for the legally required retention period. You keep the copies Stripe emailed you; support can retrieve one if you lost it.
  • We keep a minimal record of the deletion itself: the organization’s name, the owner’s email address, and a billing reference.

Everything you entered into the product is gone. Take your data with you first: Export all data on the Advanced tab builds a zip with one CSV per thing the organization holds, and emails you a link when it is ready. The deletion dialog points at it. Wait for the email before you delete, since deleting closes the workspace the link is checked against. Exporting your data describes what the zip holds.
